The 2026 midterm elections are coming up along with a variety of elections of offices for various states.  It is unfortunate that our political parties in the United States have entrenched actors both good and bad that make voting for the person and not the party an impossibility.  There is too much association with party bad actors and a historical past in the party.

The idea of government in the United States as dictated by our governmental structure is not one of continuous elected employment by the government, but one where you find a time in society that your candidacy in the government is needed for your ideas and representation then completes on a timely basis for you to live under the auspicious of that government that you had served.

Unfortunately at many levels this has morphed into adult lifetime jobs of representation.  Many of these representatives will no longer live twenty or thirty years under the rules they created.  This has created an entrenchment.  Some governing bodies have been able to pass legislation to prevent a lifetime of representation, something the voters should do.  However, there seems to push back from voters to make the changes.

Iowa will be having changes.  Republican Governor Kim Reynolds and Republican Senator Joni Ernst both republicans have said it is time for the next person. One congressional seat will be up for new blood as Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson is running for the Senate seat.

Looking at the Governors race, all one has to do is look at the states that have been lead by governors of the Democratic Party and see how well Iowa has been run.  Yes, there will be detractors.  But we do not have a ridiculous amount of fraud (Minnesota, California, New York), a ridiculously expensive place to live, (Illinois, Minnesota, California, New York), a corrupt governor (Walz, Pritzker, Hochle, Spanberger, Hobbs) in Iowa.  In fact, Iowa did not abuse Covid Money, did not lock the state down during Covid to the extent that democrat states did, have worked to lower expenses and clean up possible fraud pipelines, and keep and reduced income taxes.

It will be said that when a state government reduces spending and taxes, there will be push back from democrats in Iowa.  The question that needs to be answered is what is the purpose of state government. The answer to this question when asked of a state senator blew my mind.  It paralleled an answer that former radio talk show host Dave Racer said that there are many more people wanting the government to do things and pay them money than those who don’t ask.

I see this as those who want ask and ask and ask, and those who don’t just live their lives.  Iowa is in a process of tax and spending reduction.  They have been for years dumping an expensive progressive income tax system for a flat rate with the desire to eliminate the Sate income tax for good.  This will be an attack point in the upcoming elections.

Party members in Iowa have their primary elections coming on June 2. Both sides will need to select candidates to face off on November 3.  In upcoming writings I will point out some things regarding the candidates.  If candidates would like they may contact me for direct access to the populace.

But here is my message at the start.  I am a Cedar Rapids Iowa resident.  I do spend time with family in Illinois.  I see the cesspool that Illinois is. I do not want Iowa to be come that cesspool.  That most likely means that we do not cote the members of the primary representation in Illinois.

Even though an Iowa Democrat may be different than an Illinois Democrat prior to election, once that person is elected they are aligned with Tammy Duckworth, JB Pritzker, Chuck Schumer et. al. Since those names are associated with disaster, disaster must be averted.  Iowa, be smart, continue the good.  Yes, we do need to convince the kids to stay or move here, but that will be worse if the Democrats do get key seats.
